Apple recently unveiled the iPhone X, much to the same fanfare all of its predecessors experienced.
Release dates of the new phone have now been marked for early November, with pre-orders taking place a week prior. There have been some concerns around the release date due to manufacturing issues as well as how the less premium iPhone 8 is going to be used to possibly absorb some of the demand.
Apple’s 10th-anniversary device will feature:
- A full-screen display, the first for the company
- All-new ‘Super Retina” resolution
- Reinforced glass design
- Support for wireless charging
“Our vision has always been to create an iPhone that is entirely screen. One so immersive the device itself disappears into the experience. And so intelligent it can respond to a tap, your voice, and even a glance. With iPhone X, that vision is now a reality. Say hello to the future.” ~ Apple
With the release of the iPhone X, this got us thinking about mobile technology trends, specifically with regards to the importance of 5G:
Bigger and better network support
In 2016, smartphones outsold mobile phones by 121 million to 18 million in Europe alone; while in Asia, over 90 million smartphones were 4G enabled – but in all of these statistics, what does remain is the fact that we spend a good amount of time on our smartphones.
“Should I post this picture to Facebook or Instagram”? Let me check my likes on Twitter or followers on LinkedIn”.
While Millennials are leading the pack with social media usage, popularity of these platforms and apps is clear across multiple generations with hours upon hours spent scrolling through feeds and engaging with followers.
Then let’s not forget about WhatsApp, Skype, FaceTime and other communications App’s that have enhanced relationship building, both personally and on a work front in a positive way.
What does this mean for future network connections?
strong>5G. 5G will need to support multiple and a varying array of devices being released like the iPhone X, offering faster speed, improved capabilities, and handle the complexities of multiple apps and smartphone features we use on a daily basis.
5G will also assist in securing networks, making you even more mobile and connected than ever before.
The Smart Home
While mobile devices were marketed as connectivity on the go, smartphones are our gateway to the smart home, and again, this is where 5G will play an important role, enhancing our connectivity through the way our devices communicate with each other.
Virtual and augmented reality
reality genre is one that is already very popular – it has been for years. But with the introduction of new smartphones, the virtual world, both VR and AR, are set to receive a boost in an ever-changing entertainment industry.
Gone are the days where healthcare was limited to the walls of a hospital or within a doctors office. Healthcare has always been a priority, but being able to monitor and manage healthcare via our smartphones is not only essential but could literally be a life-changer.
Attention on environmental needs is at an all-time high, and rightfully so requires all of us to not only sit up and pay attention but also to be responsive and get involved with efforts to support sustainable development
Our smartphones are getting smarter, and so is the intelligence we can collect from 5G enabled features – all of which we can put to good use to create a better environment.
Your digital PA
It doesn’t take much research to tell us that there are those that are “attached to their phones” – constantly in hand, checking messages, those all-consuming social media channels, games, and other apps, while more work or admin-related areas like emails, video integrated meetings, payments and calendars become an extension of our working capabilities to tick off our to-do-lists.
Our lives revolve around our smartphones, and while more and more new technology like the iPhone X is being introduced, there will always be an audience that will gravitate towards it simply because of our need for them – our need to constantly stay connected on every level.
